  4. Read this document to learn about known problems with DeskScan II uncovered after the product documentation was completed.

  7. Installation Issues

  10. Before installing DeskScan II, turn off start-up documents (INITs) such as SAM Intercept, Vaccine, and SUM Shield. Also, remove disk protection applications such as Empower, DiskLock, and A.M.E. from your hard disk.

Remove all start-up and control panel documents that are not part of the system software from the System folder. Then re-start your computer. To turn off all extensions under System 7.x, press the shift key and hold it down while re-starting the computer. Then, insert the DeskScan II disk and run the installer.

If you are using one of the various INIT management tools that do not automatically notice INITs in your System folder (such as INITPicker), you may have to remove manually some temporary files left by the installer, such as Installer Cleanup and Installer Temp files. Drag them from your System folder into the trash can.

  19. Suggestions for Using DeskScan II

  22. The JPEG compressor provided with QuickTime does not compress files scanned with the Color Photo image type properly.  However, QuickTime 1.5 compresses properly.

  24. DeskScan II may not run properly if you are using On Location. If you experience problems, please remove On Location from the system folder and restart your machine.

  26. Live Preview - If you have a Thousands of Colors display and are working with grayscale images, the preview area in DeskScan II will be clearer if you change the monitor to 256 Grays.
